Able to extend battery life in portable systems, this series of audio power amplifiers integrate volume control and gain setting resistors on-chip to save board space. Designated the TPA0112, TPA0122, TPA0132, TPA0142, TPA0152 and TPA0162, the devices consume as little as 5 mA and have a shutdown or sleep mode consuming only 10 µA. The amplifiers also save power by activating a PC beep audio alarm without involving the system's CODEC. In a typical PC or notebook PC, the µP sends an alarm signal to the CODEC where it is mixed with the audio stream and then sent to the audio amplifier. The audio amp increases the power level of the tone and drives the speaker. The devices are designed to drive an audible beep to the speaker after receiving a signal directly from the µP, eliminating the need to enable the CODEC.
