The new IRU3037 synchronous buck controller IC is designed to be a key element in low-cost synchronous buck regulators for on-board dc-dc converter applications in low-voltage, high-current power systems. The IC includes a soft start feature that allows smooth start-up from idle to decrease transients caused by inrush current and overshoot. The new control IC enables single-supply operation from 5V or 12V inputs, with an input range of 4V to 25V. It is fully protected with output undervoltage detection that latches off the device when an output short is detected. The IRU3037CF is housed in a low-profile TSSOP-8 package, while the IRU3037CS is housed in an SO-8. Pricing is $0.90 each/1,000. INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER, El Segundo, CA. (310) 252-7019.
