Controllers Meld Cardbus And FireWire Circuitry On-Chip

Aug. 1, 2002
Designed to save components, board space, routing, and manufacturing costs, the PCI4510 and PCI4520 ICs integrate on-chip both Cardbus and FireWire controllers. The PCI4510 packs a single-slot Cardbus controller, an IEEE 1394a OHCI 1.1 link layer

Designed to save components, board space, routing, and manufacturing costs, the PCI4510 and PCI4520 ICs integrate on-chip both Cardbus and FireWire controllers. The PCI4510 packs a single-slot Cardbus controller, an IEEE 1394a OHCI 1.1 link layer controller, and a two-port, 400-Mb/s IEEE 1394a physical layer. The PCI4520 device is identical to the PCI4510 except for the integration of a dual-slot Cardbus controller. Core logic of both devices operates at 1.8V and I/O functions operate at 3.3V. PCI interfaces are compatible with both 3.3V and 5V environments. PCI power management 1.1 support enables active power management via the Windows operating system. The PCI4510 is available in a 209-ball MicroStar BGA and a 208-lead LQFP priced at $6 each/10,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 477-8924, ext 4500.
