Announced as a low-cost and easy-to-integrate module, the GPS2056 receiver module employs an STA2056 GPS receiver chip from STMicroelectronics. Measuring 25 mm x 25 mm, the module houses an entire GPS engine including LNA, SAW filter, baseband receiver, oscillators, and power conditioning. In terms of simplicity, users need only add an external antenna, serial communications, and a power source. Target applications include asset tracking, navigation, and distributed systems that require synchronized timing, such as clock systems or seismic monitoring. For development, an evaluation kit providing a complete plug-and-play GPS navigation system is available. The kit includes a circuit board with a GPS2056 module, USB cable, power adapter, active antenna, and Street Atlas USA 2007 software. Price for the GPS2056 module is $21 each/1,000, and the evaluation kit sells for $495. DELORME, Yarmouth, ME. (800) 561-5105.
