Via integrated rate buffering, the Model 4165 fiber-to-USB interface converts USB 2.0 data from a standard PC to a serial asynchronous data interface over fiber with a user-selectable baud rate up to 3 Mb/s. Groomed for PC tasks requiring secure communications and optical isolation, applications include constructing an optically isolated point-to-point communication link between the USB ports of two PCs or an optically isolated communication link between a PC and a serial data network in a high EMI environment. The module provides ESD protection circuitry on the USB I/O connector and its power input features 3 kVdc of isolation. Other features include user-selectable fiber polarity, user-selectable asynchronous data format, dual DB-9 power connectors (board only Model 4166), and Tx, Rx, and power-indicator LEDs.
