Consisting of two host boards and a backplane, the SHB Express line replaces the parallel PCI-X/PCI/ISA bus interface structure of PICMG 1.0 and 1.2 systems with PCI Express serial links to the backplane. A dual-processor host, the NLT board supports Intel Xeon processors with an 800-MHz system bus and EM64T memory-management technology, thereby accommodating both 32- and 64-bit applications. Features include up to 8 GB of DDR2-400 memory, two x8 PCI Express links, one x4 PCI Express link, five PCI Express reference clocks, dual SATA/150 interfaces, quad USB 2.0 ports, dual 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet ports, video, and an optional I/O expansion board for legacy I/O support. With the exception of supporting a single Xeon processor, the NLI host board specifies features identical with its NLT partner. The BPX3/8 backplane supports all full-length SHB Express-compatible system host boards and provides one x16 and one x8 PCI Express slot. Its PCI Express-to-PCI/PCI-X bridge chip supports four 64-bit/66-MHz PCI-X or PCI option card slots, and a PCI-to-PCI bridge supports four additional 64-bit/33-MHz PCI cards. The backplane also includes one Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 ports, and two SATA/150 interfaces. Prices for the NLT, NLI, and BPX3/8 are $2,675, $2,275, and $832, respectively.
