Micro Card Socket Exploits SATA

The SAL1 series micro-card-socket interface provides what is said to be a unique card-to-board interface for serial ATA and other high-speed daughtercard applications. Expected to perform at transfer rates up to 3 Gb/s, the interface is designed for use in pairs and to mate with either 1.6-mm or 2.4-mm thick cards. Features include beryllium-copper contacts on a 1-mm pitch, the ability to mate on both sides of the circuit board, and weld tabs on both ends for added ruggedness. Four standard pin counts are available with a choice of 20, 27, 30, and 40 I/Os per side. These are pass-through interfaces and can be used for multi-level board stacking. Pricing begins $0.07 to $0.10 per line. For further details, call SAMTEC INC., New Albany, IN. (800) 726-8329.
