Right-angle and edge-mount designs have been added to the company's 1-mm pitch Micro-Card (MEC1) Series of sockets. The sockets are already available in a vertical-mount SMT design, have a double row of BeCu contacts on a 1-mm pitch, and mate with 1.60 mm cards, including the company's Standard Flex Cable Data Links (MEJ1 Series). The MEC1 Series is available with 5, 8, 20, 30, 39, 49, 58 and 68 I/Os per side, with the largest vertical design packing a total of 136 I/Os in less than one sq. in. of board area, the right-angle design needing about 1.35 sq. in. to accommodate the 136 I/Os, and the edge-mount design requiring less than 3/8 of a sq. in. on each side of the board. The sockets are normally polarized to provide error free mating; however, smaller sizes with up to 30 contacts per side may be specified with or without polarization to maximize I/O density.
