With a package area-per-port of only 68 mm2, the Crystal LIU CS61584A dual T1/E1 line-interface unit reportedly requires up to 45% less board space than other full-feature LIU chips, including quad devices. The device enables telecom equipment manufacturers to design next-generation products with lower-voltage, lower-power, and high port-density components. Its pinout also simplifies board layout and interconnect tasks, further reducing board space per LIU compared to other high-density solutions.Applications include PCM/voice channel banks; data channel banks/concentrators; T1/E1 multiplexers; digital access and cross connect systems; computer-to-PBX interfaces; and SONET/SDH multiplexers. The chip is available in both 3.3V and 5V versions that are packaged in either a 64-pin TOFP or 68-pin PLCC.
