Claimed as the industry’s first 3.3V multi-rate SONET/SDH Clock and Data Recovery Unit (CRU), VSC8122 chip is the latest addition to the firm’s line of 3.3V, 2.5-Gb/s physical layer devices, which, in turn, is part of the V-PHY-2.5 product family used by designers of terminal equipment regenerators, digital cross-connects, Gigabit Ethernet systems, and more. The new chip is reportedly the lowest power multi-rate CRU that is SONET/SDH compliant to Bellcore GR-253 specs for jitter generation, tolerance and transfer. Providing clock and data recovery for OC-48, OC-24, OC-12, OC-3 and Gigabit Ethernet systems, the CRU uses a selectable input reference clock of 19.44, 38.88, 77.76 or 155.52 MHz and maintains clock output even in the absence of data. In addition, it provides 500 mV minimum output swings for clock outputs and 600 mV minimum output swings for data outputs.
