Called a building-integrated timing supply (BITS) clock recovery element, the DS26504 clock recovery IC supports many communications timing frequencies. Popular interfaces supported are the 64-kHz timing interface (GR378 and G.703, Options A and B), 2,048-kHz and 6,312-kHz synchronization interfaces (Japanese), and the standard T1/E1/J1 interfaces. Other standard frequencies that are supported are 19.44 MHz and 8 kHz. Basic framing and formatting are provided in T1/E1/J1 modes, making the chip versatile for composite clock and T1/E1/J1 architectures. The device can translate from any of the supported inbound synchronization clock rates to any supported outbound rate. No external component changes are required to switch between any of the synchronization clock rates or the T1, E1 and J1 standards. No relays or switched components are required, and a single master clock supports all operating modes. The device is packaged in a 64-pin LQFP and is available in both 0°C to 70°C and -40°C to +85°C temperature ranges. Prices start at $18.46 each/5,000. DALLAS SEMICONDUCTOR, Dallas, TX.
