Network hardware performance is said to be bolstered with the MAC1000 Gigabit Ethernet media access controller, alleviating the bandwidth requirements and increasing demands associated with the convergence of data, voice, and video applications across enterprise networks. The device is for use in local area and campus networking applications and is capable of managing gigabit per second rates. It operates at a data rate of 1000 Mbps and supports gigabit carrier extension and auto-negotiation. The chip contains large on-chip independent transmit and receive FIFO buffers to facilitate high-speed data transfers with the host. Also debuting is an enhanced version of firm's MAC8110 8-port, 10/1000 Mbps Fast Ethernet MAC, available with a generic 16-bit interface, in addition to the PCI interface.
