Designed for plug-and-play operation, the RF8000 12-parallel-channel Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver module is intended to simplify the design of fast turn-around products. The receiver processes signals from all visible GPS satellites and provides an accurate, smoothed navigation solution virtually immune to position jumps that occur when fewer satellites are monitored. Using a rapid acquisition module, the RF8000 features accurate rapid-time-to-first fix (TTFF) and signal re-acquisition. The receiver's front end uses silicon-germanium (SiGe) semiconductors, providing good receiver sensitivity and allowing operation in situations in which strong vehicle movement or signal blockage are of concern. Typical applications are asset tracking, telematics and automotive navigation products. The module's footprint measures 38 x 38 mm. A kit containing a GPS evaluation unit, active GPS antenna, power and PC cables, evaluation software, and full documentation is also vailable. The module costs $40 each/10K.
