Combining transponder and remote-control functions, the U9280M is mainly intended for use in automotive anti-theft/keyless-entry systems but is also suited for other automotive and industrial uses. It combines a 4-bit MCU including EEPROM with a transponder front end and is said to be the most flexible product available for implementing transponder algorithms and IR/RF protocols. The device's programmability enables creation of a customized anti-collision function, which is necessary if multiple transponders are used in the same RF field. The chip's intelligent power management capabilities support applications both with and without battery power. For battery-powered uses, battery life is extended by the chip's extremely low power consumption. It requires a 2V supply and draws less than 300 µA typical when active and less than 1 µA in power-down mode.
