Claiming to deliver the best phase noise and unique multi-band capabilities, the STW81103 RF synthesizer with integral voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) embarks as the first single chip in this category to operate at frequencies up to 5 GHz. In terms of phase-noise performance, the device specifies values of 0.27° RMS at 1.16 GHz, 0.6° RMS at 2.33 GHz, and 1.5° RMS at 4.67 GHz with a frequency step of 200 kHz. Its VCOs include automatic center-frequency calibration and allow the device to span frequency bands from 625 to 762.5 MHz, 1,087.5 to 1,525 MHz, 2,175 to 3,050MHz, and 4,350 to 5,000 MHz, making it deployable in wideband and multi-band applications. Pin-to-pin compatible with STW8110x devices, samples of the STW81103 are available now in lead-free VFQFN-28 packages with production set for early 2008. Price will be $5.39 each/1,000.
