The VSC7164 is a 16-bit transceiver aimed at telecomm backplane applications that are not required to meet tight SONET jitter specifications. The device incorporates four functions: multiplexer, demultiplexer, clock-recovery unit and clock-multiplication unit on. It serializes a 16-bit data bus at 155.52 Mbps onto redundant PECL outputs at 2.488 Gbps. A fully integrated CMU generates the 2.488-GHz clock from either a 77.76- or 155.52-MHz reference clock input. Serial 2.488-Gbps data on the selected redundant input buffer is recovered in a digital CRU. The output of the CRU is then deserialized onto a 16-bit data bus at 155.52 MHz. The 3.3V IC comes in a 100-pin PQFP.
