Triple-Band RF Tuners Meet Mobile Standards

For triple-band, dual-mode mobile TV and digital radio, the MAX2170 and MAX2171 RF tuners receive VHF band-III and L-band broadcasts, as well as FM, digital audio broadcast (DAB) and terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast (T-DMB) with a minimum of external components. The tuners specify an L-band front-end noise figure of 3 dB, which eliminates the need for an external low-noise amplifier circuit. When tuning VHF frequencies, the devices employ a tracking filter that rejects out-of-band interference. This tracking filter also doubles as an FM band-select filter. Both tuners operate from a 2.7V to 3.3V supply and draw 150 mW in L-band low-power mode. They integrate all necessary blocks to implement a low-IF TV/radio tuner except for a crystal and the L-band filtering required by some applications. The devices achieve sensitivities of -101 dBm at L-band, -99 dBm at VHF, and -109 dBm at FM. Available in 40-pin, 6 mm x 6 mm QFN packages, prices start at $6 each/1,000.
