Suitable for use in 3G wireless basestations, the GC4116 upconverter is said to be the industry's first commercially available digital transmitter chip to provide two independent, 3G W-CDMA channels. It also claims to be the first with an extended dynamic range with up to 22 output bits and the only transmitter that handles UMTS channels with a minimum of 78 effective taps. Features include four, summed digital transmitter channels, each of which upconverts and filters signals at sample rates up to 106 Msamples/s. Each channel features a digital resampler, filter channel, digital mixer, and digital oscillator. Power dissipation is 107 mW per channel at 70 MHz when configured for GSM. Available in a 160-ball plastic BGA, price is $34.07 each/10,000. GRAYCHIP, INC., Palo Alto, CA. (650) 323-2955.
