Promising higher throughputs and higher performance for laptops, the uPD720171 wireless USB host controller for PCI Express bus interfaces enables wireless data transmissions between PCs with MiniCard or Half-Minicard expansion cards and peripherals such as wireless hubs, printers, external storage equipment, and digital cameras. The controller also provides laptop connectivity through an ExpressCard slot. Products based on wireless USB technology can transfer data at rates up to 480 Mb/s, comparable to wired USB 2.0 connections, within a maximum range of 10 meters. The uPD720171 controller can transfer up to 480 Mb/s within a maximum range of three meters. Samples of the uPD720171 are available now at $10 each. NEC ELECTRONICS AMERICA INC., Santa Clara, CA.
