Heralded as the industry's first crystal oscillator for PCI Express applications with a high-speed, current-steering logic (HCSL) output, the DS4100H eliminates the need to translate from CMOS, LVDS, or LVPECL formats to HCSL. Exploiting fundamental AT-cut crystal technology, it integrates a PLL-based oscillator employing the company's proprietary SiGe process. According to the company, the device is 55% smaller than SAW-based or third-overtone designs in larger, 5 mm x 7 mm ceramic packages without an HCSL output. Other features include a jitter performance of less than 1 ps rms from 12 kHz to 20 MHz, operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, and ±7 ppm aging over 10 years. Available in a 10-pin, 5 mm x 3.2 mm x 1.49 mm surface-mount LCCC package, price starts at $6.50 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
