Low-Jitter VCXOs Feature Frequencies To 700 MHz

Oct. 11, 2006
MMD Components has expanded its MVIP series with a line of LVPECL oscillators suitable for use in extreme environmental conditions.

The latest entry in MMD Components' MVIP series is a line of compact, low-jitter, low-voltage, positive emitter-coupled logic (LVPECL) voltage-controlled oscillators (VCXOs). The devices come in frequency ranges to 700 MHz and with operating voltages of 3 and 3.3 V. Package size is only 5 by 7 by 1.5 mm. Available outputs include tri-state and LVPECL differential. The oscillators employ inverted-mesa and AT strip crystals.

The devices are especially suited for applications in extreme operating conditions. Specified temperature range is -55°C to +125°C. Their inverted mesa technology allows them to meet the same shock and vibration levels as oscillators operating in the 20-MHz range. Also, the inverted mesa crystals allow extended pull ranges—up to ±200 ppm at 700 MHz—while the chemically etched AT strip crystals, operating in the fundamental mode, deliver a VC-frequency pull range and a low factory jitter in the 0.5-ps RMS range.
