Reflective Optical Sensor Operates In Bright Sunlight

Oct. 8, 2008
Capable of effective operation in sunlight with intensities up to 200 kLux, the TCND3000 surface-mount, reflective optical sensor integrates touch and proximity functions and operates with an E909.01 integrated circuit built on ELMOS

Capable of effective operation in sunlight with intensities up to 200 kLux, the TCND3000 surface-mount, reflective optical sensor integrates touch and proximity functions and operates with an E909.01 integrated circuit built on ELMOS Semiconductor’s high ambient light independent optical system technology. The sensor combines an IR emitter as the source for touch/proximity signals, another for ambient light compensation, and a photo diode as the receiver for touch/proximity signals. It provides contact-free detection of movement through a translucent surface, allowing proximity detection at a distance of 2 cm and touch detection at 1 cm from the sensor surface. Other features include an operating voltage of 5V, ±20° angle of half-sensitivity, an 870-nm operating wavelength, and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Additionally, the component is available in a lead-free package measuring 5 mm x 2.6 mm. VISHAY INTERTECHNOLOGY INC., Malvern, PA. (408) 567-8347.
