March 22, 2014
According to Murata, its latest ultrasound sensor could well be the first to come in a surface-mount SMD package.

According to Murata, its latest ultrasound sensor could well be the first to come in a surface-mount SMD package. The company created a new structural design, including a new ceramic element, to accommodate this development.

The MA40H1S-R series delivers up to 100 dB sound pressure at 40 kHz. Operating voltage is 6 V p-p and the sensor has a ‒6dB full angle beam of 80°. Its low-profile SMD package measures 5.2 by 5.2 mm, with a thickness of 1.15 mm.

Likely applications will include distance measurement, position detection, and 3D gesture detection in portable equipment.
