Employing the company's audio sub-system codec, the WM9711L uses the AC'97 audio interface to help it eliminate hidden power consumption common to older codec designs. The codec connects directly to mono or stereo headphones and microphones or mono speakers to reduce total component count in a system. Its headphone output and five GPIO pins accommodate integration with wireless communication devices or other digital systems. The IC also boasts of a bass boost function that provides greater bass gain at low input levels. WM9711L uses supply voltages of 1.8V to 3.6V and core voltages down to 1.42V. Available in a 7 x 7-mm QFN package, price is $2.46 each/10K. WOLFSON MICROELECTRONICS PLC, Edinburgh, UK. +44 (0) 131 272 7000.
