RapidIO Switches Double Embedded Interconnect Performance

July 7, 2010
Second-generation family of Serial RapidIO switches support the Serial RapidIO 2.1 standard and leverage best-in-class technology from the CPS and TSI product lines.

IDT’s second-generation family of Serial RapidIO switches support the Serial RapidIO 2.1 standard and leverage best-in-class technology from the CPS and TSI product lines. The switches double data rates up to 20 Gb/s while reducing power by 40% and improving latency to 100 ns in cut-through mode. Initial devices include the CPS-1848 48-lane switch with 240 Gb/s of non-blocking bandwidth for use in large processor clusters or backplanes and the CPS-1616 16-lane switch with 80 Gb/s of non-blocking bandwidth for line cards and smaller processor clusters. Development support comes by way of the Serial RapidIO System Modeling tool for optimizing network architecture as well as Serial RapidIO Linux open source support and the RapidFET JTAG Edition Software for switch configuration. The CPS-1848 is available in a 29 mm x 29 mm FCBGA and is priced at $99 each in volume. The IDT CPS-1616 comes in a 21 mm x 21 mm FCBGA, priced at $49 each in volume.
