Bringing TV viewing to ultra-small form-factor portable computers and living room PCs, the SAA7231 embarks as the markets smallest single-chip PCTV solution. The device supports worldwide broadcast standards and measures 10 mm x10 mm, about half the size of a mini card. Suitable for use in TV cards running current and future variations of Microsoft Media Centre Edition, it supports analog, DVB-T and DVB-S broadcasts and integrates an MCE-compliant IR controller for full-function remote control. The chip's video-processing engine decodes analog AV streams for features such as PVR and time shifting, while adaptive 2D noise reduction improves picture quality. The SAA7231 also includes three-level Macrovision detection circuitry to keep the video’s original analog copy protection intact and will protection for premium TV content is via 128-bit AES and DES encryption.
