Eliminating the need for multiple chip solutions, the NW812 PC camera (PCAM) IC enables both video and audio capture via the USB port by integrating an audio a/d converter on chip. The device works with existing VGA CMOS sensors to provide frame rates up to 15 fps (VGA) or 30 fps (CIF). The audio a/d converter samples at a rate of 48 kHz to deliver an eight- and 16-bit monophonic output. The NW812 comes in a 100-pin LQFP and is priced at $5.95 each in volume.
