Said to be an excellent solution for external lithium-niobate modulators, the CMM3020-BD is an optical driver amplifier targeting high-bandwidth, 10-Gbit/s applications. It gives fiber optic system designers a combination of wideband frequency coverage, flat response and very low internal jitter. A precision GaAs RF IC, the driver amplifier operates from 30 kHz to 20 GHz with a linear 10 dB gain response. It is a medium power, 23 dBm amplifier with a typical output voltage of 7.5 Vp-p. The bias voltage can be adjusted to reduce the output voltage as needed. Targeted for OC-192 and other high-speed applications, the device has a bit rate as high as 13 Gbits/s. This wideband gallium-arsenide device is produced on the company's high-frequency, sub 0.25-µm, stepper-based pHEMT process. Samples are available in gel pak packages and pricing in OEM quantities is $180 each.
