High contrast, 94V-O-compliant polycarbonate material developed by GE is used to produce light pipes that are white-diffused in off-state appearance and take full color when in the on state. The second-generation material is said to provide a 60% improvement in contrast ratio for light transmitted by SMT and through-hole LEDs. The higher contrast ratio also has the ability to advance use of indoor displays, office equipment, motion sensors, and other applications. The material is available by special order.
