A pair of Power-over-Ethernet midspan devices offers the highest power per port available on the market, according to the manufacturer. Currently available in 2- and 4-port versions, the POE240U-2MP and POE576U-4MP Gigabit-compatible Mega PoE midspans deliver up to 95 W per port, making them well-suited for high-power applications such as computer workstations, LCD display panels, and wireless access point arrays. The midspans feature IEEE 802.3 detection and disconnect, as well as pre-standard IEEE 802.3at classification. Over-voltage, over-current, and short-circuit protection is also incorporated. Both devices have an ac input voltage range of 90 to 264 V ac and an operating temperature range of 0°C to 40°C. The PoE240U-2MP’s total output power is 180 W. The PoE567U-4MP has an output power of 380 W. The ability to deliver data and centralized backup power while reducing product installation costs will be particularly useful in merging applications such as emergency lighting, outdoor security cameras, magnetic locks, and medical monitoring.
