Claimed as the industry's first fully integrated multi-rate SONET/SDH section terminator to include a transceiver, the VSC8151 provides monitoring and modification of the section and line overhead of a SONET/SDH OC-3, OC-12 or OC-48 signal. It also provides generation of the AIS-L signals. The device is compliant with Bellcore, IEEE and ITU-T specifications. The chip monitors the integrity of a SONET/SDH signal and provides a means of implementing Operations, Administrationm Maintenance and Provisioning (OAM&P) features in DWDM equipment. The SONET/SDH signal is demultiplexed, framed, descrambled and processed to provide indications of frame status and received bit errors and to also allow users to monitor and, if necessary, modify all 27 bytes of the transport overhead.
