A transmit disable function is now included in a family of LED-based multimode 2 x 5 small form-factor (SSF) transceivers used in wide network area (WAN) and metropolitan area network (MAN) equipment. Many WAN and MAN systems use automatic protection switching (APS) or N+1 port redundancy, which requires a transmit disable function. The addition of the function to the SSF transceivers allows drop-in replacement for the existing 2 x 5 single-mode transceiver footprints, offering an instant upgrade for multimode applications. The devices are Metropolitan Service Area (MSA) compliant, LC interface transceivers for next generation WANs and MANs. All of the devices operate over the commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C or the industrial range of -40°C to 85°C. The multimode optical transceivers have low levels of jitter over the industrial temperature range. Pricing for the transceivers ranges from $50 to $80 each in production quantities.
