The CM1238 protection device provides eight channels of ESD protection that meet ±15-kV contact discharge and ±20-kV air discharge per the IEC61000-4-2 standard. It also meets the 100 ohm differential impedance matching requirements of the HDMI 1.3a and DisplayPort digital video standards. The CM1238 is part of the XtremeESD family and utilizes a second generation of the PicoGuard XS architecture, which is based on a smaller diode design that enables enhanced signal integrity, smaller form factor, and lower product cost than the first-generation architecture. It provides matched impedance without requiring external compensation or components. Target applications include digital TVs, LCD displays, notebook computers, set top boxes, and HD DVD recorders. An ESD Resource Center (www.XtremeESD.com) contains technical white papers, product specifications, articles, presentations, and an open forum on various ESD protection topics. The CM1238 is available in a 0.5-mm pitch, 16 lead TDFN package (4 mm x 1.7 mm). Samples will be available in October with full production scheduled for December. It’s priced at $0.40 each in 1000-unit quantitiess. CALIFORNIA MICRO DEVICES CORP., Milpitas, CA. (800) 325-4966.
