Unlike previous devices, this new family of integrated, DSP-independent audio devices is designed for use in Internet appliances, such as MP3 players, PDAs and digital cameras. The WM8731 combines a D/A and A/D converter, headphone amplifier, analog volume control, and a 12-MHz USB clocking scheme. It can generate commonly used sampling rates from an on-chip oscillator, eliminating the need for an external PLL. The WM8711 is a replay-only device and is pin-for-pin compatible with the WM8731. This device includes an analog input path to a volume control for external signal sources. And the WM8721 is a smaller version of the WM8721. Prices for the WM8731, WM8711 and WM8721 are $4.67, $3.48 and $3.14 each/1,000, respectively. WOLFSON MICROELECTRONICS LTD., Edinburgh, UK. +44 (0) 131 667 9386.
