Debuting members of the BlueCore3 line include the BlueCore3-Multimedia and BlueCore3-ROM devices - BlueCore3 is said to represent the first complete implementation of Bluetooth v1.2, including all optional features. BlueCore3-Multimedia packs an open-platform DSP co-processor, a 16-bit stereo audio CODEC with dual A/D and D/A converters, and integrated amplifiers for driving microphones and speakers. With its user-programmable DSP, the IC is expected to find wide use in enhanced audio consumer products, such as wireless stereo headphones. The device requires a minimum of external components and is available in a LFBGA package. The BlueCore3-ROM boasts of high levels of reliability by removing the risk of placing code into ROM. Its 4-Mb ROM is metal programmable, significantly reducing turn-around time from approval of firmware to production samples. BlueCore3-ROM also boasts of improved built-in self-test (BIST) routines, helping to speed up production testing, and is available in a 4 x 4-mm CSP, as well as BGA, RF Plug, and Go packages.
