Communications IC Melds High Efficiency RISC With High Performance DSP

Representing the first in a family of embedded communications processors that combine the efficiency of RISC with the high-end performance of DSP, the Cartezian Communications Engine features a synthesizable 32-bit RISC/DSP processor and RISC/DSP edge processors together with a rich set of communications peripherals and software stacks. The Cartezian family provides scalable soft-core solutions focused primarily at Layers 2 and 3 of the OSI model, with processing capability also provided for Layer 1.Cartezian Routers and Switches are the family’s first members, with applications targeted for LANs, Central Office line cards, DSLAMs, and SOHO systems. Cartezian SOHO Router system-on-a-chip offers two or four Voice-over IP capabilities, two or four fully channelized HDLC links with super- and sub-frame capabilities, a complete VoIP H.323 stack, 10/100 Ehernet MAC, and more. Cartezian Switch packs four to 21 channelized HDLC links with super- and sub-frame capabilities and one or two 10/100 Ethernet MACs. Both devices have a 200-MIPS 32-bit CPU RISC/DSP main processor.
