The KGL5115KD, a 10-Gb/s EML 1 driver IC for optical communications, achieves what the company claims is the lowest power consumption to date: 0.45W at a 2.3 Vp-p amplitude. The device relies on GaAs PHEMT 3 technology for this reduction in power, which is said to be 25% less than comparable drivers. Poised for XFP and SFP+2 applications, the KGL5115KD operates on a power supply of 3.3V and measures 4 mm x 4 mm in a ceramic package. Samples are available now.
