Integrating a controller area network (CAN) interface and extra on-chip RAM, the ADSP-21992 digital-signal processor (DSP) targets emerging embedded control and signal processing in automotive, industrial motor control, un-interruptible power supply (UPS), and portable instrumentation applications. The CAN interface conforms to CAN V2.0B, includes 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers, operates at a 1 Mb/s data rate, and includes 16 configurable, receive-or- transmit mail boxes. Other features of the CAN interface include error status and warning registers, a universal counter module, power-down and sleep mode, and readable transmit and receive counters. The processor combines the C-programmable, 160-MIPS 16-bit ADSP-219x core with 48K words of on-chip RAM and VisualDSP++ development tools. Features include an eight-channel, 14-bit 20-Msamples/s a/d converter with dual sample-and-hold amplifiers, a three-phase PWM generator, incremental encoder interfaces, timers, serial ports, SPI interface, watchdog timers, and interrupt controllers. In addition, the ADSP-21992 is supported by CROSSCORE hardware and software development tools. Available in a 196-ball, mini-BGA package and a 176-pin TQFP, price is $22.50 each/10,000.
