Representing what is reported as a 33% boost in performance over the pin- and code-compatible, 225-MHz C6713, the TMS320C6713 DSP operates at 300 MHz and is capable of 1,800 MFLOPS. The device targets audio applications that include multi-channel broadcast encoding, digital mixing, and effect creation. It includes two I2C multi-master and slave interfaces and two multi-channel audio serial ports (McASPs), each with independent Tx and Rx clock zones, eight serial-data pins, and error checking and recovery. The processor also supports an integrated digital audio interface transmitter (DIT) with 16 transmit pins, enhanced channel status/user data, and S/PDIF, IEC60958-1, AES-3, and CP-430. Additionally, design support is by way of the C67x DSP and Fast C67x DSP Run-Time Support libraries, which are downloadable from the company's web site at no charge. Available in a 256-pin, 27 mm² BGA, price is $34.29 each/10,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
