The TDA21801, an intelligent fan-speed controller, squeezes four-wire functionality out of a two-wire fan, resulting in what is estimated to be a 25% reduction in material costs. Users can adjust fan speed from 750 rpm to 4,000 rpm, making the device suitable for applications requiring lower fan speeds and less-audible noise levels. Other features include an OTP function that generates an over-temperature early warning signal to prevent data losses should thermal faults occur. The function also generates a tachometer signal for additional system monitoring. Available in a RoHS-compliant SO-8 package, price is $0.70 each/50,000. INFINEON TECHNOLOGIES AG, San Diego, CA.
