Announced as one of the industry’s first optically isolated sigma-delta modulators using an external clock to provide direct measurement of motor phase currents in power inverters, the CMOS-based ACPL-796J uses an external clock that allows synchronized data conversion between the current sensor and controller. The component provides digital inputs and outputs that are compatible with 5V or 3V supplies and operates over an industrial temperature range. Specs include a 5- to 20-MHz external clock-input range, one-bit, second order sigma-delta modulator, 16-bit resolution (12-bit effective resolution), minimum SNR of 74 dB, 3.5-µV/?C maximum offset drift, ±1% maximum gain error, ±200-mV linear range with a single 5V supply (±320-mV full scale), a 25-kV/µs common-mode transient immunity, an operating temperature range from -40?C to +105?C, and worldwide industrial safety approvals. Available now, price for the ACPL-796J is $6 each/10,000. AVAGO TECHNOLOGIES, San Jose, CA. (877) 673-9442.
