Pulling in the reins on over-current in customer premise equipment (CPE), the latest PolySwitch circuit-protection device, the TRF600-150, is 25% smaller than a previous version. The device is suitable for use in telephones, fax machines, set-top boxes, security systems, modems, and other telecommunications equipment that must comply with UL 60950 and TIA-968-A standards. It comes in a lead-free package that is compliant with the Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC. Unlike traditional fuses that interrupt only when fault currents exceed 1A, the resettable TRF600-150 provides a 150-mA hold current and limits let-through energy to significantly lower levels. In addition to interrupting power faults, the device handles lightning surges up to ITU-T K.20/21/45. Price is $0.35 each/100,000. RAYCHEM CIRCUIT PROTECTION, Menlo Park, CA. (800) 227-7040.
