The TransGuard Series of bi-directional transient voltage suppressors (0805 size or smaller) is said to be suitable substitutes for TVS diodes. The miniature TransGuard Series 0402 chips are available in 5V, 6V, 9V, 14V and 18V versions, with a 50 mJ energy rating and a typical capacitance range from less than 90 pF at 18V to 360 pF at 5.6V. A StaticGuard low capacitance version offers typical capacitance of 40 pF with an energy rating of 20 mJ. The 0402 chips are used in cell phones, pagers and digital cameras and are rated for operation over the full temperature range of -55°C to +125°C.
Typical pricing for the 0402 chips ranges from $.122 to $.129 each/100,000 with a lead time of 8-10 weeks ARO.
