Among the products Data Modul had on display at Embedded World was its COM Express module, which was designed into Suitable Technologies’ BeamPro 2 telepresence robot (Fig. 1). Data Modul and Suitable Technologies worked together to design the robot that will be available this year. The COM Express module contains an Intel Core i5 processor.
The BeamPro 2 incorporates numerous sensors, including multiple microphones. It uses a Data Modul PCAP easyTOUCH display that can be moved vertically to adjust the presentation and viewing height. Most telepresence robots have a fixed height. Embedded World visitors were able to interact with a BeamPro 2 at Data Modul’s booth.

Of course, Data Modul isn’t in the telepresence market—that’s the bailiwick of Suitable Technologies. One of the other technologies that Data Modul highlighted at the show was its optical bonding support. The company can provide customers with LOCA, OCA lamination, air-gap bonding and gel-bonding support. The in-house adhesive options enable the company to supply the right display optimization for any industrial demand, including industries like the medical sector.
A variety of boards were on display, such as the eDM-COMB-KL6 (Fig. 2). It supports a range of 7th-generation Intel processors including Core i3, i5, i7, and Xeon E3. Also supported are some of the latest technologies like Intel’s Optane solid-state drive (SSD).

The boards can handle up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory with or without ECC support. They can also drive up to three 4K displays in addition to a dual-channel, 24-bit LVDS display. The Gigabit Ethernet connection supports AMT 11. A Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is optional. The four SATA ports support RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. In addition, there are four USB 3.0 and eight USB 2.0 ports. The x8 PCI Express (PCIe) interface is Gen 3 along with a x16 PEG Gen 3.0 interface. The optional Optane storage module uses the PCIe interface.
