Poised for tight quarter server, storage, and networking applications, the Aptera connector platform specifies a 10-mm slot and cross talk under 2% at a 50 ps rise time (20% to 80%). Combined with a matched impedance interface and zero skew, the platform is scalable for future design requirements. In addition to a low-profile design, the platform does not impede airflow and promises mechanical integrity that is more robust than standard card edge connectors. Its modularity is said to allow users to optimize the card edge by allowing them to choose appropriate connection types and the amount of signals. The connector employs a straddle mount topology with solder leads for the daughtercard and press fit for the backplane. Samples will be available in April and volume pricing is anticipated to be $0.08 to $0.12 per mated line. TERADYNE INC., Nashua, NH. (603) 879-3600.
