The company’s B-type mini-USB connector has now been joined by mini A-type and mini AB-type connectors. The mini-USB connectors’ size has been reduced by more than 60% compared to the standard USB connector, and they are said to be ideal for portable devices such as digital cameras, MP3 players and PDAs. Like their standard-sized USB counterparts, the A-type and the B-type are intended for use in host and peripheral devices, respectively. For devices with both host and peripheral capabilities, the AB-type connector accepts both A-type and B-type cables. All three mini-USB types are fully shielded and have indentations for exceptional grounding and mating retention.
