Connectors rated for 175A and 180A have been added to the company's established AMP Power Series Connector line. The 175A connectors are two-pole, wire-to-wire style components rated for 600V ac or dc when using 1/0 wire. They employ a gender-less housing that allows mating between two identical housings, and the contact system uses a one-contact style, as opposed to a male/female arrangement. The single-pole 180A connectors are also rated for 600V and provide similar features and design attributes as the 175A models. An interlocking feature on the housing allows multiple connectors to be horizontally or vertically stacked. Both connectors employ an impact-resistant, UL 94V-0 polycarbonate housing, with the housing coming in different colors to indicate voltage. All contacts are silver-plated copper with a life time of up to 10,000 mating cycles. The connectors accept 1/0 to 4 AWG wire, and bushings are available to make the contacts compatible with wire sizes down to 10 AWG. Pricing for 175A housings and contacts are $1.90 and $1.15, respectively, each/10,000, while 180A housings and contacts cost $1.05 and $1.15. TYCO ELECTRONICS INC., Harrisburg, PA. (800) 522-6752.
