The new XLamp MC-E LED combines red, green, blue, and white chips in one package, while the enhanced XLamp XP-E package delivers the highest-performance family of discrete, high-power color LEDs available, according to the manufacturer. The XLamp MC-E uses a unique package design to combine four color LEDs in one compact device. The device provides designers flexibility in creating color-changing applications that require high flux from a small lighting source. The XLamp XP-E color LEDs offer up to 22% more flux than the existing XLamp XR color portfolio, with an 80% smaller footprint. Compared to the XLamp XR devices, space between the LED die can be reduced by 75% with the XLamp XP-E color LEDs and 94% with the XLamp MC-E color LEDs. This reduction in spacing can permit better color mixing and shadow reduction. The MC-E and XP-E color LEDs are sampling now, with production quantities scheduled for Q3 2009. CREE INC., Durham, NC.
