Following a sharp spike in coronavirus infections due to the omicron variant, a number of large automotive players including General Motors, BMW, and Mercedes all canceled their physical presence at CES 2022, shifting instead to a virtual participation. Nonetheless, CES 2022 remains an important technology platform in the automotive space. It’s still a primary means of discovering what’s driving the innovations behind connected vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and autonomous mobility.

Automotive technology sales are expected to rebound in 2022 as we begin to see early signs of recovery in chip supplies. The Consumer Technology Association’s 2022 forecast, released at CES, projected factory-installed automotive tech will reach $16 billion in shipment revenues this year, a 7% increase from 2021 ($14.9 billion).

Stay tuned for more automotive technology developments coming from CES.
