A new family of 8-bit, low-voltage, embedded controllers is said to achieve unsurpassed 8-bit performance due to a 6X-accelerated 80C51-compatible core. Manufactured using a 0.35-µm embedded flash technology, the LPC900 family has an operating range of 2.4V to 3.6V and reportedly possesses exceptional power management capabilities that extend battery life from months to years. Well-suited for handheld battery-powered devices and other electronic peripherals, the controllers feature up to 8KB flash memory, 512 bytes of on-chip data EEPROM, and 768 bytes of SRAM. The LPC900 family also includes a variety of peripherals around the core, such as 16-bit capture/compare/PWM, 3 Mbps SPI and 400 Kb/s I_C serial interfaces, watchdog timer, and user selectable power management functions. The first LPC900 devices are members of the P89LPC93x series, available in a TSSOP28 package. PHILIPS SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 234-7381.
